What is the Duck Drop?

It's a chairlift duck race! Thousands of numbered rubber ducks are dropped from the Mt. Sunapee chairlift toward targets set up under the lift. Each target is a prize donated by a local sponsor — if your duck lands in one, you win that prize. Every duck purchased supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Kearsarge-Sunapee region.

When and where is it?

The 10th Annual Duck Drop is October 11, 2026 at Mt. Sunapee Resort in Newbury, NH, from 10am to 2pm, with the awards ceremony at 3pm.

How do I buy ducks?

You can buy ducks online ahead of time using the “Buy Ducks” button at the top of this site, or pick them up at the gate on event day. Buying early helps us plan — and means more time to enjoy the festival.

How are winners chosen?

As ducks are tossed from the chairlift, they fall toward the prize targets below. A duck that lands in (or closest to) a target wins the prize tied to that target. Winners are announced at the awards ceremony at 3pm.

Do I need to be present to win?

No — you don't have to be there to win. We'll contact winners after the event to arrange prize pickup. That said, it's a lot more fun to be on the mountain to watch the drop!

What happens to ducks that aren't dropped?

Any pre-purchased ducks that aren't claimed will be dropped by the kids at 1:30pm. Any ducks not dropped by 2:00pm may not be included, as we start picking winners at 2:00 sharp.

Where does the money go?

All proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Kearsarge-Sunapee region, which serves children from six weeks through high school with childcare, preschool, before- and after-school programs, summer camps, and recreation across five locations.

Is it family-friendly?

Absolutely. The Duck Drop is part of Mt. Sunapee's fall festival weekend — bring the whole family for a fun afternoon on the mountain.

How can my business get involved?

We'd love to have you. Sponsors receive online, print, and radio exposure, plus the chance to display branding at the mountain — and Goose sponsors build a prize target under the lift. Head to the Sponsors page to grab the application.
